A senseless police officer in Niger state has brutally shot dead a bus driver for refusing to give him N50 bribe.

A man identified as Isah Mohammed, a police sergeant along Tegina-Lagos road Mashegu, in Mashegu local government area of Niger state shot dead a commercial bus driver for refusing to give him N50 naira bribe.
According to The Independent, the bus conductor sustained injuries during the encounter and is presently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in the area.
According to an eyewitness, the policeman had demanded for N100 as bribe from the driver who begged him (the policeman) to accept the only N50 he had to offer. However, the officer was said to have stood his ground and insisted on collecting the N50 balance.
However, pandemonium broke out when the officer allegedly pulled the trigger of his gun, aimed at the driver and pulled it, killing him instantly, while the conductor who was trying to dodge from the bullet had his leg fractured in the process.
Metro further gathered that the death of the driver attracted people from the adjourning villages who went wild with anger, while other drivers barricaded the Tegina-Lagos road after abandoning their journeys in solidarity for one of their own cut down by the trigger happy police officer’s bullet.
Bala Elkana, police public relations officer, Niger state police command confirmed the incident.
According to Elkana, a deputy superintendent of police, the policeman linked with the incident has been arrested and detained, adding that Zubairu Mu’azu, the state police commissioner has ordered discreet investigations into the incident.
The police maker quoted his boss as saying advising members of the public especially commercial drivers on the need not to take laws into their hands as he assures the public that justice would be done to the trigger happy policeman.
